DMH,

Kar Seva is a tradition in Sikhism that means voluntary service.

What does it mean?

  • Kar = to do / to work
  • Seva = service

So, Kar Seva means doing physical service with your own hands to help others, without payment.

Examples of Kar Seva:

  • Cleaning a Gurdwara (Sikh temple)
  • Cooking and serving free meals (Langar)
  • Building or repairing religious sites
  • Helping people in need

A famous place where Kar Seva is often performed is the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India.

Kar Seva emphasizes humility, equality, and selfless service.
