IGO X "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on." - Robert Frost

There are two opposing principles at work here. In standard units you should combine troops of different talents and levels of ability. However, when putting together specialist units select troops who have a similar temperament and skill set. For example, rapid assault squads should comprise your quickest, bravest people. Then they will feed off the “vibe” between them and their combined energy will build to a greater power. The words “power” and “momentum” here refer to the unified energy of troops with similar abilities. Conversely, if you mix the brave with the cautious, or the hasty with the contemplative, you will cause discord.

An army does not always march as a single unit. The dhinese  traditionally split their armies into three divisions, each of which would have further subdivisions within them. These divisions might be separated from each other by many miles and take different routes over the landscape but still be in close communication via flags, signals and messengers.
