The smallest neurotransmitter, a molecule named glycine, turns out to be critical to our ability to relax. Glycine allows us to release the tension in our shoulders and rest our heads on a pillow at the end of the day. For our neurons, sensing a burst of glycine is akin to drinking chamomile tea and taking an Ativan.
