JNDIC BNGELS

 A

Angels in Indic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism) don’t always appear as “winged beings,” but angel-like intermediaries are very common. They’re usually called Devas, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Bodhisattvas, or celestial messengers.

1. Hinduism — Devas (Closest to Angels)

Devas are luminous celestial beings who assist cosmic order and sometimes help humans.

  • Agni — carries offerings between humans and gods

  • Vayu — messenger force

These act like guardian angels for humanity.

  • Jamdoots — death messengers

  • Devtas — celestial beings

  • Divine protectors in visionary experiences

Core Angel-Like Functions in Indic Religions

Across traditions, these beings:

  1. Messenger between divine and human

  2. Protector of individuals or places

  3. Guide toward enlightenment

  4. Record or observe actions

  5. Assist during death transition

  6. Maintain cosmic order

Key Difference from Western Angels

Indic “angels” are:

  • part of cosmic hierarchy, not separate creation

  • sometimes reborn beings, not eternal

  • not always morally perfect

  • often luminous energy beings, not winged
