Here’s a simple, line-by-line meaning of the Govinda Damodara Madhaveti hymn, so you can really feel what you’re chanting 🙏

🌼 Verse 1

Kararavindena padaravindam…

  • “I meditate in my heart on baby Krishna…”
  • He is lying on a banyan leaf
  • Holding His lotus feet with His lotus-like hands
  • And placing them in His lotus-like mouth

👉 This paints a beautiful image of divine innocence and sweetness

🌼 Verse 2

Shri Krishna Govinda Hare Murare…

  • “O Krishna, Govinda, Hari, Murari…”
  • “O Lord, Narayana, Vasudeva…”
  • “O tongue! Drink this nectar of divine names:”
    Govinda, Damodara, Madhava

👉 This verse says: chanting God’s names is like drinking nectar

🌼 Verse 3

Vikretu-kama kila gopa-kanya…

  • A cowherd girl goes to sell yogurt and butter
  • But her mind is absorbed in Krishna
  • Instead of calling out her goods, she keeps saying:
    “Govinda, Damodara, Madhava”

👉 Shows deep devotion—Krishna is always on her mind

🌼 Verse 4

Grihe grihe gopa-vadhu-kadambah…

  • In every home of the cowherd women
  • They gather together joyfully
  • And constantly chant these holy names

👉 This reflects community devotion and shared joy

🌼 Verse 5

Sukham shayanah nilaye nijepi…

  • Even while resting at home
  • People chant the names of Vishnu (Krishna)
  • By doing so, they become fully absorbed in Him

👉 Meaning: constant remembrance leads to spiritual union

🌼 Verse 6

Jihve sadaivam bhaja sundarani…

  • “O tongue! Always chant the beautiful names of Krishna”
  • These names are enchanting
  • And remove all suffering of devotees

👉 Final message: chanting brings peace, joy, and liberation
