STRM FRNKLIN

The Buddha taught that there is no birth and no death. Our belief that these ideas about birth and death are real creates a powerful illusion that causes us a great deal of suffering. When we understand that we can’t be destroyed, we’re liberated from fear. It’s a huge relief. We can enjoy life and appreciate it in a new way.

Thich Nhat Hanh, “Free from Fear”

For worldly objectives, therefore, ‘Nama Sivaya’ is recited, but for moksha, ‘Sivaya Namaha’ is recited. Saint Vallalar wrote that when one applied sacred ash on the forehead, one should say ‘Sivaya Namaha,’ because it confers on a devotee good speech, good company, good qualities and moksha

Understanding the mind and thought in detail comes as a great help on one’s spiritual journey. A mind with a satisfied curiosity is much more likely to achieve silence, in comparison to a mind whose curiosity not been addressed or has been ignored or suppressed.

Towards this goal lets take a deep dive and delve into depth of what “THOUGHT” is. What is thought ? What is the nature and origin of thought ? Why does consciousness fluctuate, Why does it dream ? Let’s go to it’s very root and try to find out and dig out some secrets.

Human beings (The Homo Sapiens ), have been on this earth for around three hundred thousand years. According to a research Human beings started thinking only about one hundred and ten thousand years ago. Comparing this to the history of this planet thought has only been around for .002% of earth’s life. For 99.998% in earths lifetime, there had not been any thought. So thought is a pretty new, very young phenomenon, probably in it’s infancy. But how did the thought start, How did the first ever thought possibly emerge, from where ?

Apparently, the phenomenon of thought is peculiar to Human Beings only. Why ? Why is it that only Humans can think. Why is it that consciousness fluctuates in Human Beings only ? If we observe closely, as with thought, the only other phenomenon which is peculiar to Human beings is Walking Upright, walking on two. There might be some exceptions among animals who walk upright occasionally but as we read along, we’ll know those exceptions are not relevant for the purpose of this discussion.

Thought and Walking Upright have a very Profound Relationship.

According to the AIT (Aryan Invasion theory), this period preceded the period of composition of the Rigveda and the Avesta: the joint ―Indo-Iranians‖, in the course of their postulated emigrations from South Russia, settled down for a considerable period of time in Central Asia, where they developed this joint culture. Later, they separated from each other, and migrated into their historical areas, where they composed, respectively, the Rigveda and the Avesta, both representing the separate developments of this earlier joint culture. This joint Indo-Iranian culture is, therefore, pre-Rigvedic.

I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness.

By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.

Weak memory is not the cause of Happiness. It is ajnAna. Even during the deep sleep state, memory is lost and the happiness is obtained. But this kind of Happiness is only temporary. You are losing it as soon as you get up and become aware. To be with Eternal Knowledge results in the Eternal Bliss, not forgetting ones True Self.

The abilities to remember life before birth and to tune into children seeking birth serve as landmarks on the road to expanded awareness, according to the Father of Yoga and pioneering psychologist Patanjali. Nearly two thousand years ago, the great sage delineated fty-two human abilities or siddhis, including remembering the reason for our birth and discerning subtle, hidden, and remote things beyond the ve senses. Sage Patanjali’s research reveals that these abilities are nothing new. We are merely rediscovering our innate potential.

Siddhis (Sanskritसिद्धि siddhi; fulfillment, accomplishment) are material, paranormal, supernatural, or otherwise magical powers, abilities, and attainments that are the products of yogic advancement through sādhanās such as meditation and yoga

Eight classical siddhis[edit]

According to different sources, below are the eight classical siddhis (Ashta Siddhi) or eight great perfections are:[6][7]

  • Aṇimā: the ability to become smaller than the smallest, reducing one's body to the size of an atom or even become invisible.
  • Mahimā: the ability to become infinitely large, expanding one's body to an infinitely large size.
  • Laghimā: the ability to become weightless or lighter than air.
  • “Garimā”: the ability to become heavy or dense
  • Prāpti: the ability to instantaneously summon any item the user is aware of at any given moment.
  • Prākāmya: the ability to achieve or realize whatever one desires.
  • Īśiṭva: the ability to control nature, individuals, organisms, etc. Supremacy over nature and ability to force influence upon anyone.
  • Vaśiṭva: the ability to control all material elements or natural forces.

Throughout the ages, insights into such questions came from early philosophers of Western Europe such as Socrates (469–399 BCE), who passionately argued at the end of his life: “We have clear evidence that the Soul is immortal.”1 Modern scholars suggest that the Greeks, as glorious as they may have been, most likely acquired their profound knowledge of the Soul’s immortality from Vedic India. Legends in Greece, for example, speak of journeys to India made by ancient philosophers who were believed to have traveled widely. “Thales, Pythagoras, Empedocles, Democritus, and Plato were all fabled to have made the journey.”2 Since trading routes long existed between India and Greece along the Silk Road and the sea, these legends are probably more than anecdotes. What the Greeks would have learned in India is that the Soul is imperishable. Krishna, in the Bhagavad-Gita, describes the nature of the Soul: weapons cannot destroy it, water cannot wet it, re cannot burn it, nor can the wind dry it.

Five siddhis, according to Vaishnava doctrine[edit]

In the Bhagavata Purana, the five siddhis brought on by yoga and meditation are:

  1. trikālajñatvam: knowing the past, present and future
  2. advandvam: tolerance of heat, cold and other dualities
  3. para citta ādi abhijñatā: knowing the minds of others, etc.
  4. agni arka ambu viṣa ādīnām pratiṣṭambhaḥ: checking the influence of fire, sun, water, poison, etc.
  5. aparājayah: remaining unconquered by others[11]

Human birth is merely the beginning of our spiritual journey on Earth, a notion traceable in the West to classical philosophers in ancient Greece and Rome. This concept of a lesson plan is upheld by religions, philosophies, and small-scale societies. Shakespeare alluded to our life contracts when he said, “All the world’s a stage”; all the men and women are merely players with their exits and entrances. This was the playwright’s way of teaching us about prelife planning. We come to the earthly stage with a pre-existing script.

The eight siddhis hinted at by Kapila in the Tattvasamasa are, as explained in verse 51 of the Samkhyakarika:[13]

  1. Uuha: based on the samskaras (karmic imprints) of previous births, the attainment of knowledge about the twenty-four tattvas gained by examining the determinable and indeterminable, conscious and non-conscious constituents of creation.
  2. Shabda: knowledge gained by associating with an enlightened person (Guru – upadesh).
  3. Addhyyan: knowledge gained through study of the Vedas and other standard ancillary texts.
  4. Suhritprapti: knowledge gained from a kind-hearted person, while engaged in the spread of knowledge.
  5. Daan: knowledge gained regardless of one’s own needs while attending to the requirements of those engaged in the search of the highest truth.
  6. Aadhyaatmik dukkh-haan: freedom from pain, disappointment, etc. that may arise due to lack of spiritual, metaphysical, mystic knowledge and experience.
  7. Aadhibhautik dukkh-haan: freedom from pain etc. arising from possessing and being attached to various materialistic gains.
  8. Aadhidaivik dukkh-haan: freedom from pain etc. caused by fate or due to reliance on fate.

###################ATB

Brief transcendental bliss: Abraham Maslow coined the term ‘peak experience’ to dene this state of inner peace, energy, creativity, and bliss. Mystics call it samādhi. The Soul begins to wake up to its true nature. Brain scans show dominant alpha (alertness) with theta (deep rest).

Permanent transcendental bliss: being alive is a peak experience of inner happiness, peace, silence, wholeness, wonder and awe, and awareness of higher truth. The Soul has awakened to its true nature. Everything becomes sacred and beautiful. Brain scans reveal mixed beta, theta, and alpha. Orderliness increases between the right and left hemispheres.

Pause Before Reacting to Someone

If someone is being difficult and frustrating, it might be wiser to ask yourself why they’re being that way, instead of yelling at them.

This is really about being more mindful about the way you interact and behave with someone.

Before responding, try to actively listen to what they’re saying.

UCCHAKOTI

Chuang Tzu (369–286 BCE), the Chinese philosopher, claried the lower end of the awareness scale: “We do not ask the blind about a painting, nor invite the deaf to a songfest. Blindness and deafness are not merely of the body: There are souls, too, that are blind and deaf.”15 Chuang Tzu acknowledges what happens when an individual attains the upper limits of the awareness scale: “You can’t discuss the ocean with a well frog—he’s limited by the space he lives in. You can’t discuss ice with a summer insect—he’s bound to a single season. You can’t discuss the Way with a cramped scholar— he’s shackled by his doctrines. Now you have come out beyond your banks and borders and have seen the great sea.… From now on it will be possible to talk to you about the Great Principle.”

Catcher is an old Soul. When he was ve, he started to become inquisitive and ask deep questions about Heaven. One day his mother overheard his conversation with her best friend Megan, whom he calls “Auntie”: “Catcher asked, ‘Auntie, what do you believe happens to people when they die? I believe they go to Heaven.’ Megan said, ‘Catcher, it is wonderful that you believe that. My faith is Baha’i, and it’s not that black and white. We believe there are levels in Heaven.’ “Catcher was interested in knowing more about these levels. Megan explained, ‘There are many stages of spiritual growth for the Soul. The amount of growth you do in each human life determines how close to God you are the next time you go to Heaven.’ Catcher liked the concept of becoming closer and closer to God the more spiritual growth you do. Catcher was positive and accepting and said, ‘Oh, yeah, that makes sense.’ These are the kinds of conversations he has with Megan. He knows something about Megan that makes him feel safe.”
