DTR FLGHT BACK TO TOFIA

OMEGA3 DWMAS

A study has found that raising levels of omega−3 fatty acids in blood can lower the risk of premature death similar to quitting smoking, an equivalent to adding 4.7 years of life.

If freewill does not exist according to nonduality, then how can someone hope to change bad habits or take charge of their life's circumstances? Is it all up to "grace"?

Lots of perfect answers here, especially Tom’s and Chandra’s reminder that “bad” habits is just a judgment of the mind.

But let’s take a different approach, Narayanan. Let’s drop all the worn-out, misunderstood concepts like ‘free will’ and ‘non-duality’ and ‘take charge.’ In the end, those are just fancy conclusions and philosophies come to by some wise ‘minds’ that like to put everything in a box.

Let’s look at your life, N., and my life too, and everyone else’s. How many choices did we make about what we would become and how we wanted things to turn out in our life? Going back to childhood, all the way to how you thought yesterday or last week was going to go? And how many of those choices and days went just the way we thought they would or should? No matter how much we tried to exercise our ‘will’ or ‘take charge?’

The answer is zero. Every aspect of our lives went the way it did, not the way our mind or our will or our choice wanted it to. Often so completely different from what we visualized, that we look back at the end of any day or any decade and wonder, “How the heck did I end up here?”

So we could go into long explanations about how/why the Universe manifests the way it does or how “our” lives unfold, how “we” are not the Doer,” how in Reality there isn’t really even a separate “we” or “me,” just rising and passing phenomena, and all that.

Or we can just let go of what ‘non-duality’ says about it, or “grace” or whether anybody has ‘free will,’ and just look at Reality. As they say, “Let’s keep it real.”

What’s real is, our life unfolds as it does, none of it’s ‘right’ or ‘wrong,’ ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ and personal control is an illusion. Even ‘person’ is an illusion. You are ‘authored.’ You are also the Author (The One Self,) but you are not currently realizing that, or you wouldn’t have asked this question. You are the One manifesting Itself as the many to express Itself in an incalculable number of unique and beautiful ways. Who you are and what you are contributing to this is perfect, right now, just as it is, good habits, bad habits, warts and all! :-)

Nothing need change. Including your erroneous belief that something needs to change. Even that can remain. Even that is part of your beautiful expression.
And change will happen anyway. And not because “you” changed it, or because “you” took charge and diverted it. Simply because You Are. And You Are valid and enough.

Yes. As soon as you stop resisting, denying and rebelling against reality, suffering will end.

No, because a defensive reaction to reality is how the human mind is organized, fundamentally.

The mind splits reality into “good” and “bad”, and then tries to get rid of the “bad”, which of course it can’t do. The mind has no power to reshape reality.

Whenever the mind, inevitably, comes in touch with that which it considers “bad”, the mind suffers.

So yes, the mind could stop splitting, judging, denying, refusing what is. And no, because that refusal is what the mind, essentially, is.

Suffering is when our consciousness is negatively illustrated by Nama-Rupa and that leads to arising of minds that are of greed, craving, ingratitude, desire, conceit, hatred, ill will, sloth and torpor, repenting and restless etc.

The path to purification of consciousness leading to end of suffering is Vipassana.

Swami Vivekananda Himself showed His real form as Shiva to few of His disciples. One such is below-

In April 1897 Swami Vivekananda was staying at the Alambazar monastery after returning from the West. Sharat Babu went to see Swamiji and found him resting in his room. He sat down to wait for Swamiji, but all of a sudden he saw that Lord Shiva was lying where Swamiji had been. He could not believe his eyes at first, but as he stared at the figure he could not doubt what he saw.

Meditation consists of concentrating on mental objects (like mantras or light), or a point of focus, like the breath.

Non-dual practice isn’t a form of meditation.

It’s the art of just being: remaining fully conscious, but without any mental activity.

It’s sometimes called “self-inquiry” because it's also the discovery of what we actually are.

(Inquiry is meant in the sense of scientific inquiry.)

We know the truth as soon as we stop manufacturing other things.

By comparison, even the activity of breath-focus creates and expands its object (the breath).

What’s left when you let go of everything?

Find out.

“I am” is the practice and the final reality.

How are Devi Parvati and Durga the same?

Some people already answered this question. We go according to Hinduism based on worship were you can easily understand the Truth.

Actually “Parvati “ meaning is “Daughter of mountain” it's her initial name which suggest the Daughter of Himavant (King of mountain) after Divine marriage name changed to “Durga” when She killed Durgamasur then changed to Mahishasura Mardini after killing Mahishasura.

The highly Popular names are used in Hinduism are

Durga, Ishwari, Lalita , Rajarajeshwari , Mahakali , Bhavani , kamakshi, Uma , Ambabai, Ambika, Annapurneshwari, Adishakti ,Maheshwari , meenakshi, Mariamman , sheetala devi etc…

You commonly heard of Lalita sahasranam chanting 1000 names of lalita/ Durga / Parvati

We commonly seen in Durga puja

How can one great vacation renew one spiritually?
A solo trip to the Himalayas or Thiruvannamalai for me. It can be any spiritual place that you love.

  • Talk only when absolutely necessary.
  • Stay in tourist free nondescript places.
  • Carry negligible baggage.
  • Eat less and eat basic food.
  • Use extremely less of your cameras and gadgets. Do not use except when absolutely necessary.
  • Roam around like a nomad so people hesitate to approach you. My trick is to grow unkempt beard and hair and not give eye contact to humans.
  • More walk and less transport. If possible, trek.
  • Always be lost in something, the views, the breeze, the stray dogs, the butterflies, the trees, the aroma of nature, or at least the empty sky.
  • Never miss the morning and evening twilight times.
  • A vacant stare at the empty sky is the greatest Spiritual vacation as it instantly connects you with the cosmic. Luckily it is the same sky from anywhere, and always available even in the home terrace, for you to continue once back home.

AM I A UNIT OR A COMMITTEE

Sevenfold reasoning of the chariot (Tib. ཤིང་རྟ་རྣམ་བདུན་གྱི་རིགས་པ་, shingta nam dün gyi rikpaWyl. shing rta rnam bdun gyi rigs pa) — a line of logical reasoning used by Chandrakirti in his Madhyamakavatara in order to establish the selflessness of the individual and show that the self is merely a designation, applied to an assembly of parts, in just the same way that the designation 'chariot' is applied to the assembly of its parts, i.e., the wheels, axle, body and so on.

  1. There is no chariot which is other than its parts
  2. There is no chariot which is the same as its parts
  3. There is no chariot which possesses its parts
  4. There is no chariot which depends on its parts
  5. There is no chariot upon which the parts depend
  6. There is no chariot which is the collection of its parts
  7. There is no chariot which is the shape of its parts

We must remind ourselves that samadhi is the result of spiritual practice. It is the method, the state of mind (conciousness). It is not the natural state of being. Samadhi is redirecting your attention into the unchanging element of your experience. As such, this state has to be conciously mantained. Samadhi as a practice is the result of achievement. Our focus can travel from “here” into Samadhi and back for as long and as often we want. Samadhi has its meaning.

On the other hand realizing Nirvana or authentic nonduality in the case of Advaita Vedanta is the end of spiritual practice. Both Nirvana and nonduality are absolutely empty with no meaning.

Someone calls it enlightenment - the end of achievement of any kind. The end of practice and practicioner. Not any kind of state of being or mind or conciousness. Enlightenment is absolutely empty and only as such allowing everything to be the way it is.
