M BP X WM LESIONS BRAIN X DEMENTIA

The treatment reduced white matter lesions by 40 percent.
Drugs that treat blood pressure more intensively also help keep the brain healthier, new research concludes.
Holding systolic blood pressure below 130 mmHg reduced white matter lesions by 40 percent, the study found.
Doctors in the study used higher dosages or combinations of drugs to reach the lower blood pressure target.
It is thought that the lesions can form into areas of white matter disease that are characteristic of dementia.
Around 50% of older individuals have this kind of white matter disease in their brains, although for many it is harmless.
