According to the basic duality in manifestation, beginning with male and
female, ugliness comes into being as soon as something is labelled as
‘beautiful’.
Being and Non-Being arise together; and so do long and short, difficult and
easy, high and low, sound and silence, before and after, pleasure and pain.
These are complementary opposites: one cannot exist without the other. That
is the nature of daily living, but let us not forget that there can always be the
‘middle’ that is neither.
The wise man lives his life never forgetful of this basic fact of life – merely
witnessing life as it happens without judging anyone.
