How does seeing dependent arising lead to seeing the Dharma, which leads to seeing the Buddha? A
process of progressive understanding is needed. When we realize causal dependence — that
everything we perceive and experience arises as a result of its own causes and conditions — our
perspective on the world and on our inner experiences shifts. Due to understanding that these exist
only because their causes and conditions exist, our world, our experience, and even ourselves no
longer seem so fixed and solid. Being dependent, they have no essence of their own.
