Long-Term Results of the Treatment of Primary Hyperhidrosis With Oxybutynin
- International Journal of Dermatology
TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
- This study retrospectively analyzed 1658 cases of primary hyperhidrosis (HH) treated with oxybutynin. Patients were divided into groups based on location of HH—palmar, plantar, facial, and axillary. Overall mean age was highest in the facial group (40.47 years) and lowest in the palmar group (23.22 years). Almost all patients (94%) reported poor or very poor quality of life prior to treatment, with the worst quality of life reported in the palmar group. After treatment, 70% of patients showed moderate or optimal improvement in clinical symptoms. The highest rates of improvement were noted in the facial group (81%) and the lowest rates in the axillary group (67.7%), with no statistically significant difference between groups. Intense dry mouth was reported in 24.9% of patients and was worst in the axillary group.
- Overall, 77% of patients reported that they were a little better or much better with treatment, with the facial group reporting the most improvement in quality of life.
