Men who consumed more plant-based foods had a 25% reduced risk of heart disease, compared with those eating more animal-based foods, while for women the decrease was 11%, according to research presented at the online meeting of the American College of Cardiology and World Congress of Cardiology. Eating more healthful plant-based foods was associated with a significantly lower risk of heart disease, compared with a diet that had more animal-based foods, but the association did not hold true for people eating more unhealthful plant-based foods.
