We Jump to Judgment Based on Thin Evidence
The examples show how quickly people spin elaborate narratives:
-
A few competitive words → “He must be an athlete.”
-
A few sexualized words → “She’s in a dishonest relationship.”
-
A handful of coincidences → “This must be orchestrated.”
: Sometimes coincidences are coincidences. Other times they signal something real.
The problem is that humans are storytelling machines.
We see patterns—even when evidence is thin.
Lesson: Our confidence in snap interpretations often exceeds the strength of the evidence.
