We Are Overconfident in Our Ability to Detect Lies


. When results contradicted the agent’s judgment, agents trusted their instincts over the machine. 
And when instincts contradicted reality, the betrayal continued.

Lesson: Humans—even experts—are far worse at spotting lies than we believe. 

Confidence does not equal accuracy.
