Rupa Goswami

Rūpa Goswami (16th century) was a prominent saint, theologian, and writer in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. He is one of the most important followers of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and he helped systematize and spread the devotional teachings of that movement.

Key points about him:

  • Founder of Gaudiya theology literature – He wrote many foundational Sanskrit texts explaining devotional practice (bhakti).
  • Author of Upadesamrita (The Nectar of Instruction).
  • Major works also include Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu, which describes the science of devotion.
  • He was one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan, a group of highly respected scholars and saints who shaped the tradition’s philosophy.
  • He spent much of his life in Vrindavan, writing and establishing temples.

He is widely revered in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition for his deep scholarship and devotion.

If you’d like, I can also explain his main teachings in simple terms.
