SMB X NARAYAN STUTI BY DHRUVA

 A

Here’s a description and text of the Dhruva Stuti (also called Dhruva-Kṛta Bhagavat Stuti) from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, along with its significance. If you like, I can also share the full Sanskrit + translation of all 12 verses.

What is Dhruva Stuti

  • This stuti is offered by Dhruva Mahārāja in Canto 4, Chapter 9 of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. (Stotra Nidhi)

  • It contains 12 verses (ślokas 1-12) in which young Dhruva, after intense penance, praises the Lord. (Stotra Nidhi)

  • It is considered very special because Dhruva initially could not speak, but Lord Vishnu activates his capacity to speak by touching him with His divine conch. Then Dhruva delivers these verses. (krishnamurthys.com)

Some Key Verses / Sample

Here are a few sample verses with translation:

  1. Śloka 1
    Sanskrit:

y’ontaḥ praviśya mama vācām imām prasuptām
    sañjīvayaty-akhila-śakti-dharaḥ svadhāmnā
anyāṁś ca hasta caraṇa śravaṇa tvag ādīn
prāṇān namo bhagavate puruṣāya tubhyaṁ (Vedabase)

    Meaning:
“O Lord, I offer my obeisances unto You. You are the Supreme Person who entered into me (as the inner self), and awakened my speech which was until then inactive. You also enliven my hands, feet, ears, sense of touch, skin, etc., and my breath. I bow to You, the Supreme Purusha.” (Stotra Nidhi)

  2. Śloka 2
    Sanskrit:

    ekas-tvameva bhagavan-nidām ātmā-śaktyā
    māyākhyayor guṇayā mahad adya śeṣam
sṛṣṭvā nu viśya puruṣa tada asad guṇeṣu
nāneva dāruṣu vibhāvasu vad vibhāsi (Stotra Nidhi)

    Meaning:
“You alone are Bhagavān, the eternal, as the Self-principle and by Your power (śakti). By Your māyā (illusion); by Your qualities (guṇas) You manifest the great principle (mahat) and its subsequent evolutes. Having created, and then entered into, You pervade the qualities and the non-qualities; You appear in manifold forms though essentially one.” (Stotra Nidhi)

Spiritual Significance

  • The stuti affirms both the immanent and transcendent nature of the Lord: He is the inner self, the power behind speech, senses, life. Also, He is the divine creator who through His energies manifests the universe. (Stotra Nidhi)

  • It exemplifies pure bhakti even from a young devotee: Dhruva’s devotion is so sincere that it overcomes all obstacles, and Lord responds.

  • The stuti is used as a meditation on God’s omnipresence, His power behind consciousness, and the goal of devotion and surrender.
