Sanatan signifies the eternal truth, the supreme truth that transcends the boundaries of time, which is without beginning and without end. It is the truth that existed before creation and will continue to exist even after its dissolution, the truth that is indestructible. This is Sanatan, the imperishable, eternal, and steadfast reality. This eternal truth is embodied in Shiva, and Shiva is the supreme consciousness that reveals this truth. Truth is God, and God is the true essence of Sanatan.

Sanatan represents that divine reality which existed before anything else and will remain after all else ceases to exist, encompassing the entire cosmos. It is the eternal element that pervades all, unchanging and immovable. The significance of Sanatan lies not in external rituals, but in the ultimate expression of inner consciousness.

Dharma, on the other hand, is the essence of an entity’s natural, inherent qualities. For instance, the dharma of fire is to burn and radiate heat, while the dharma of water is to be cool and fluid. Dharma is the fundamental quality without which the existence of an object cannot even be imagined.

Thus, 'Sanatan Dharma' means the eternal and everlasting nature that never perishes, that has always existed and will always exist. Sanatan Dharma is not just a sect or creed; it is a way of life that connects humanity to its foundational roots. In the Vedas, Puranas, and scriptures, the literal meaning of Dharma is that which is worthy of being upheld, that which forms the foundation of life. 'Dharayati Iti Dharma' — Dharma is that which sustains.

The true measure of Dharma is that one should not do unto others what one would not accept for oneself. This is the essence of Dharma, and its highest rule. Sanatan Dharma inspires us to walk the path of humanity, compassion, and truth, and paves the way for a life filled with divinity.
