These are stages in the life duration of an element in a continual process of change = aka time

From another perspective the time is duration between cause and the effect.

B Shortly before his death, Francisco Varela talked about the Tibetan Buddhist notion of “subtle consciousness” in an interview with Swiss filmmaker Franz Reichle.10 Subtle consciousness isn’t an individual consciousness; it’s not an ordinary “me” or “I” consciousness. It’s sheer luminous and knowing awareness beyond any sensory or mental content. It’s rarely seen by the ordinary mind, except occasionally in special dreams, intense meditation, and at the very moment of death, when one’s ordinary “I” or “me” consciousness falls apart. It’s the foundation for every other type of consciousness, and it’s believed to be independent of the brain. Neuroscience can’t conceive of this possibility, while for Tibetan Buddhists it’s unthinkable to dismiss their accumulated experience testifying to the reality of this primary consciousness.

এর জন্য চাই সাধন, আর দেহ শোধন না হলে সাধন করা সম্ভব নয়। তাই একজন সদ্গুরুর প্রয়োজন হয় এসমস্ত কিছু তিনি শিখিয়ে দেন দেখিয়ে দেন ।

When we repeat a same thought over and over (eg. fear), then our brains fire up the same neurons every time. It is estimated that we need to do 10,000 repetitions to make a new neural pathway stronger in making a new behavior as normal.

 Experience includes inward experience of the mind and body gained through meditation, and outward experience of the world gained through scientific observation and experimentation. In neither case can there be genuine knowledge without communal testing and agreement on what the valid findings are. Buddhism and science both share this critical and experiential stance.

We're each born as an objective lense upon reality, observing existence through our perceived senses.

Consciousness is what's watching through the lense, what's absorbing the information we're perceiving.

Each individual is the combined effort of bacterial and cellular awareness, that keeps our physical existence alive.

When two points of awareness entangle, they create a group consciousness that's defined by the combined points of perspective.

The larger the group, the stronger this group consciousness becomes, continually redefining it's perception of reality.

The totality of all consciousness, in all places, at all times, is what everyone through history really means, when they use the word God.

A Let me try another method - this method is called Drg-Drishya Viveka (analysis of the seer and the seen), and i would strongly suggest reading the book by Vidyaranya Swami, alongside the excellent YouTube series by Swami Sarvapriyananda. Here is a summary:

Step 1: Note that the seer and the seen must be different entities.

Step 2: Your eyes are the seer, and external physical objects are seen. Note that the objects keep changing, but your eyes are (relatively) constant. The same goes for all your 5 senses.

Step 3: Your mind is the seer, and your eyes are seen. This can be shown by experience, since your mind knows if your eyes are open or closed, your mind knows the condition of your eyes (if you need glasses, etc). This is true for all your senses. The senses change (their state ie. open/closed, their condition ie. working, not working properly, etc), but the mind is (relatively) constant, and it is thus that your mind can notice the change. As in the prior step, you thus can know that the mind and the senses, the seer and the seen, are different.

Step 4: Consciousness (You) are the seer, and the mind is the seen. The mind changes constantly. Since you woke up, You have experienced so many moments of the mind being happy, sad, angry perhaps, dull, excited, restless, or calm.

You (ie pure Consciousness) are the observer of the mind, and thus different from it.

the self is a process, not a thing or an entity. The self isn’t something outside experience, hidden either in the brain or in some immaterial realm. It is an experiential process that is subject to constant change. We enact a self in the process of awareness, and this self comes and goes depending on how we are aware.

A system is considered conscious if it monitors and responds to its environment to survive/thrive.

The greater the number of things monitored and the greater the complexity of the responses to survive/thrive the greater level of consciousness of the system.

Human consciousness is not a light switch. It’s not an either you have it or you don’t. Otherwise you wouldn’t be considered conscious when you’re sleeping. A baby would not be considered conscious.

The reality is you are a system of cells that functions together for the survival and thriving of the system. You start as a blastocyst that slowly begins to monitor and respond to more and more things in the environment as it develops. Early embryonic functioning is fairly binary. Eventually the baby starts to correlate sensory inputs to map the environment as pain, pleasure, and hormonal drivers are satisfied. After birth, a hunger response that gets satisfied while hearing a sound of the mother’s voice will associate that sound with satisfying hunger. Light sensors will activate and eventually will correlate to a pattern that is associated with familiarity, food, warmth etc and the mother’s face.

So it goes, cross correlation of stimuli to map the environment to satisfy urges is the beginning of higher consciousness. But, all conscious thought can be attributed to mapping, cross correlating mapped objects, building laws of how mapped entities relate to each other, then exploiting the map of reality for the survival and thriving of the system.

This extends to group consciousness. A country is a group of entities or people that recognizes others in their group. They work together to form systems to monitor and respond for the survival/thriving of their country. But, any self recognizing group forms a conscious entity. A low conscious system has rudimentary monitoring, internal communication, processing, and responding. A highly conscious group has detailed monitoring, communication, processing and responding.

If you want a more conscious system, you have to monitor more, create more detailed maps of the environment, process more to exploit the map in order to more effectively and efficiently respond to survive/thrive.

Science fiction authors have understood for decades that a conscious entity is one that attempts to survive/thrive.

The medical community already defines consciousness and levels of unconsciousness as levels of monitoring and responding to the environment.

A simple cell has a very basic level of conscious functioning.

Your computer has some very basic conscious functioning.

A computer could easily be made to have high conscious functioning, but that would not be a good idea.

A Roomba could easily be made to seem like a highly conscious entity. A Roomba could be given a camera with face recognition, an algorithm to determine who the owner is and it could have a Google/Siri voice. If the owner covered the Roomba charging port, the Roomba would find and follow the owner around while screaming and begging for the obstruction in the charge port to be moved. This would be a real survive/thrive conscious functioning and make the Roomba seem alive, but the Roomba’s conscious level would not actually be very high.

Intelligence is efficiently making the map, understanding the relationships between elements in the map and exploiting the map to achieve the desired result. A computer or AI system does not need to be conscious to be highly intelligent.

Buddhism mostly circumscribes Nirvana by saying that it is the absence ofsuffering and the exit ofthe cycle of rebirths. Therefore, by interpreting Nirvana, the final goal of Buddhism, without further knowledge, one could tend to believe that Buddhism aims for the annihilation of oneself.
