- n this study, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) was performed in 3984 individuals, including 143 with diabetes, as part of a community cohort study in the UK. All participants had no known cardiovascular disease and LVEF >50%. Investigators were blinded regarding the diabetes status of the participants. No differences were observed between diabetic and non-diabetic participants in terms of LVEF, LV mass, or RVEF. However, LV and RV volumes were significantly smaller in patients with diabetes. Both left atrial and right atrial emptying fraction were lower in patients with diabetes, and LV global circumferential strain was impaired.
