We also anticipate the ingestion of toxins. Many toxins taste bitter, and toxins or poisons also make
us feel sick and nauseated. It is interesting that strong bitter tastes are sufficient to induce nausea and
also to cause the stomach to stop its normal rhythmic churning.
16 So we anticipate incoming toxins
when we taste strong bitter tastes by experiencing the punishing effects of nausea, readying us to
regurgitate, and by trapping the contents of the stomach, preventing us from absorbing what we
ingested. These preparations for incoming toxins can be lifesaving.
