BIRCRAFT RULES

 A

Flight attendants spend a lot of time in the air and tend to develop habits based on safety, comfort, and practicality. While this varies person to person, here are seven things many would generally avoid:

1. Drinking tap water onboard

Aircraft water tanks are cleaned and tested, but many crew prefer sealed bottled water over tap water from the galley (including coffee/tea made with it on some flights).

2. Going barefoot

Cabin floors can be dirty, and spills in lavatories are not always just water. Shoes stay on.

3. Ignoring hydration

Cabin air is very dry (often 10–20% humidity), so dehydration happens quickly. Crew usually drink water frequently.

4. Eating heavy or gas-producing foods before flying

Altitude changes and dry air can worsen bloating or discomfort, so many avoid salty, greasy, or gassy foods.

5. Touching high-contact surfaces unnecessarily

Tray tables, seatbelt buckles, armrests, and lavatory handles are touched constantly. Many crew wipe down their area or sanitise often.

6. Skipping seatbelts while seated

Even when the sign is off, unexpected turbulence can happen. Flight attendants often keep their seatbelt loosely fastened whenever seated.

7. Overpacking valuables in checked baggage

Crew know lost or delayed bags happen. Essentials like medication (for example Insulin), chargers, documents, and a change of clothes are usually kept in carry-on luggage.

These are less “secret rules” and more practical habits built from experience.
