NEPANTULA

 A

Here’s an elaboration of the concept of Nepantla in bullet points, based on the image:

What is Nepantla?

  • Origin: A Nahuatl word used in philosophy and spirituality.

  • Definition: The experience of being in-between—not fully belonging to one side or the other.

  • Liminality: It's a liminal space, a transitional state of "neither here nor there."

Examples and Metaphors

  • Migrant Identity:

    • Living between old and new cultures.

    • Navigating unfamiliar environments while carrying the weight of the past.

  • Spiritual Conflict:

    • Like an apostate who no longer follows their faith but still finds comfort in its rituals.

  • Relationship Transitions:

    • The feeling after a breakup—no longer part of a couple ("we") but not yet fully your own person ("me").

Deeper Meaning

  • Psychological State:

    • A moment of disorientation, but also potential transformation.

    • A state of internal conflict and identity negotiation.

  • Spiritual or Philosophical Insight:

    • It's the awareness of your becoming—a self in motion.

    • Knowing you’ve left something behind, but haven’t arrived at your new self or place.

Would you like a poetic version of this or an application to personal growth or social identity?

I was told many years ago not to worry too much about what did not get done in March or April because you could nearly always catch up in ‘the back end’, which refers to September and October. These have always been good gardening months and one of the (few) good things about climate change is that they are getting better. The light is fading but the heat remains in the soil and many, many plants flower, fruit and grow with a kind of serenity you do not find in any other season.
