Why some over-95s have stronger brain connectivity than those decades younger.
‘Successful agers’ who are over 95-years-old have stronger activation between the two hemispheres of the brain than some in their 70s, new research finds.
How do they do it?
Scientists are just starting to explore the factors that are linked to successful cognitive aging.
The big five lifestyle factors are the ones you’ve heard many times before, especially in relation to heart disease.

  1. Take regular exercise.
  2. Don’t smoke.
  3. Maintain a low body weight.
  4. Eat a healthy diet.
  5. Low alcohol intake.
For example, taking a walk three times a week for six months can reverse brain aging by up to nine years, one study finds.
