P ADOL SOCIAL ANXTY X ENURESIS

  • This study assessed social anxiety (SA) among adolescents with monosymptomatic primary nocturnal enuresis (MPNE), perhaps as a consequence of the condition rather than a cause of it. In all, 56 children diagnosed with MPNE were compared with 42 unaffected controls across multiple psychiatric parameters via a semi-structured interview and multiple questionnaires. No difference was observed in total depression and anxiety scores; however, those with MPNE had worse scores in the SA subscale and across multiple SA-specific questionnaires.
  • Although this study could not assess whether MPNE results in SA, it highlights the greater frequency and severity of SA in children struggling with MPNE. The authors suggest that adolescents with MPNE be evaluated for SA and disorders impacting mental health.
