Monalisa

Yes! That’s correct—art historians have noted that the Mona Lisa originally had eyebrows and possibly eyelashes, but over time they have faded or were removed during restoration and cleaning.

Infrared scans and close examinations suggest Leonardo da Vinci painted them very subtly, in line with the delicate shading style called sfumato, and centuries of cleaning, varnishing, and aging made them almost disappear. Some historians even speculate he may have left them faint on purpose for a softer, more mysterious look.

It’s one of the many reasons why the painting’s enigmatic expression continues to fascinate people today.

If you want, I can show you what Mona Lisa might have looked like with her eyebrows restored. Do you want me to do that?
