A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool. |
William Shakespeare |
“We” are not specifically here to dream this dream. God is not “our” true nature. There is no “we” or “our” in the dream. There’s just the dream.
In your night dream last night, there appeared to be a dream “you” and that dream “you” may have been pondering its true nature, or striving to attain something. But was there really a “you,” a “we” or an “our?” No. It was just a dream.
“You” cannot strive or not-strive to awaken, and “you” are not specifically here to dream anything, because there is no “you.” Only the dream. And hallucinatory dream-characters.
Yes, in this ‘waking dream’ as well as the night dreams.
Just the dream. For no reason. For no purpose. Not being dreamed by God or by any entity. That’s all just stuff dream-characters add within the dream. As is any striving or even desiring, to awaken, to not-awaken, to be wealthy, to be in constant pleasure/bliss and free from ‘suffering’ etc. Literally, everything “you/we” can think, speak, believe in or aspire to is just what the dream character adds to What is. Even the conclusion: “we” are specifically here to dream this dream. Just words…meaningless concepts.
Student: If both dream and escape from dream are imaginings, what is the way out?
Sri Nisargadatta: There is no need of a way out! Don't you see that a way out is also a part of the dream? All you have to do is to see the dream as dream.
Student: If I stop striving to ‘awaken’ and dismiss everything as a dream, where will it lead me?
Sri Nisargadatta: Wherever it leads you, it will be a dream. The very idea of going beyond the dream is illusory. Why go anywhere? Just realize there appears to be a dream you call the world, and stop looking for ways out. The dream is not your problem. Your problem is that you like one part of your dream and not another. Love all, or none of it, and stop complaining. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs be done
