Red flags associated with a feeling of a lump in the throat:
- Weight loss
- Pain
- Unilateral or lateralising symptoms
- Otalgia
- Change in voice that is constant or worsening
- Systemic symptoms
- Risk factors for malignant disease, such as smoking or excess alcohol intake
- Abnormal neck examination, such as lymphadenopathy or neck lump
- Regurgitation
- Dysphagia
