ALLERGIC RHINITIS STEP WISE RX

Mild episodic symptoms Oral nonsedating antihistamine PRN
OR
Topical antihistamine, topical cromolyn
sodium to nose, eyes or both


Moderate continuous Intranasal corticosteroid daily starting
symptoms before season
AND
Oral nonsedating antihistamine daily
with or without decongestant
Topical treatment as needed



Severe refractory Consider other diagnoses/coexisting
symptoms disease
Consider oral corticosteroid therapy for
a few days to alleviate symptoms
Immunotherapy
