A UK study published in the journal Nature Medicine found that women with genetically higher testosterone level have a 37% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and a 51% higher risk of developing polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as a higher risk of developing breast and endometrial cancers, compared to women with lower testosterone levels. Based on genetic data from over 425,000 individuals, the findings also showed that a higher testosterone level lowers the risk of developing type 2 diabetes among men by 14%, but increases the risk of developing prostate cancer.
