NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Neuropathic pain refers to pain arising from damage in the peripheral or central nervous system. Clinically it may present with sensations such as burning or stabbing in areas of sensory loss:
  • hyperalgesia - an increased response to a normally painful stimulus
  • allodynia - pain caused by a stimulus that does not normally cause pain
