Abraham Lincoln was running for office and calling on local citizens.
A crusty old farmer refused to shake his hand. “I’d sooner vote for the devil than vote for you,” he snarled.
“Well in case your friend decides not to run,” Lincoln replied, “I’d still appreciate your vote.”
